MSSU students create children’s waiting room at Joplin courthouse

JOPLIN, Mo. — A new children’s waiting room created by students at Missouri Southern State University was debuted during an open house today at the Joplin courthouse.

Five students in professor Ree Wells-Lewis’ social problems class took on the project. They call themselves Empowering Young Voices.

Jasper County Prosecutor Dean Dankleson said the waiting room is a big improvement from the government office decor that existed in the room before. He said the child-friendly room will help to comfort the children and their parents during trials and hearings.
