Mountain lions are increasing in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma after facing near extinction.
There were 14 confirmed mountain lion sightings in Missouri last year and three so far this year, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation. None of them were in Southwest Missouri or Southeast Kansas.
A female mountain lion was captured last year in Tulsa, according to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.
A new study published in The Journal of Wildlife Management notes 178 confirmed mountain lion sightings throughout the Midwest and as far south as Texas between 1990 and 2008.
