Joplin library board give go-ahead for plan for new library

JOPLIN, Mo. — The Joplin Public Library Board of Trustees this morning unanimously approved a resolution supporting a plan to build a new library at 20th Street and Connecticut Avenue, said library director Jacque Gage.

“This meeting was just to say ‘yes, let’s go for it,’” Gage said by phone after the meeting.

The new library is one aspect of the plan for a 3,000-acre Tax Increment Financing District in the center of the city including the tornado zone and downtown. The plan calls for a $20 million complex including the library and a theater.

Gage said the library has no space to expand in its current location on Main Street.
