From staff reports

— Michael Wade has been hired as the assistant finance director for the city of Joplin and will begin work today, the city announced late Monday.

Wade has held various positions in government finance over the years, most recently serving as the treasurer for the city of Nevada. Before that, he worked as the finance director for the city of Belton for 11 years. He also has worked in the finance departments at Grandview and Independence.

Wade will work with Joplin Finance Director Leslie Jones, assisting with the management of accounting and finance functions, accounts payable and receivable, and other daily operations in the department.

“Mike has a great deal of knowledge and proficiency with city government finances,” Jones said in a statement announcing the hiring. “He brings a lot to Joplin, and I know he’ll be a great asset to our organization and community. I look forward to working with him here at the city.”

Wade holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, and a master’s degree in management from Rockhurst University in Kansas City.

His annual salary will be $64,480, according to city officials.
