Auto dealership to donate parts to Crowder College program

NEOSHO, Mo. — A donation of new factory-made parts by a Springfield auto dealership will benefit the automotive technology program at Crowder College.

Dixie Lee, parts manager with Springfield Imports, said the Volkswagen, Porsche and Mitsubishi dealership had excess inventory.

“We were trying to find creative ways to get rid of it, so we decided to give back to the community,” Lee said.

She said she had developed a rapport with Doug Donnel, the collision repair instructor at Crowder. She said she is aware that technical schools sometimes lack funding for materials, and that obtaining parts that are original from the factory also is difficult for schools.

She said the dollar value of the donation is about $11,000. It includes sheet metal, air bags, suspension components, electrical components and accessories.

“It will help the collision repair and the automotive repair students,” Lee said. “We’re very happy as a company to offer this opportunity to Crowder students.”

Lee said she plans to deliver the parts on Friday.

Donnel couldn’t immediately be reached for comment Monday.
