Plenty of interest for Freeman green building expo

JOPLIN, Mo. — Vickie Boyt, a partner in Solsource Greenbuild, was staffing the company’s booth Monday at the Freeman Health System Green Builders Expo.

The Freeman event was all day Monday in the conference room of the Freeman Business Center.

The Solsource display included information about building with insulated concrete forms and about energy-efficient windows. The other partner in Solsource is Boyt’s husband, Art Boyt, former director of Crowder College environmental programs. Vickie Boyt said they are building houses using insulated concrete forms in Neosho and Joplin.

Cynthia Smith, of rural Joplin, is looking to rebuild her duplexes on east 18th Street that were destroyed in the May 22 tornado.

“I’m wanting to rebuild as green as I can possibly build,” she said. She had stopped at the Home Depot display, where she was looking at a water-saving toilet.
