Grant for Native American tribes to be announced

PITTSBURG, Kan. — Officials with Pittsburg (Kan.) State University and the nine federally recognized tribes of northeast Oklahoma plan to announce today a grant from the Laura Bush 21st Century Library program.

The $487,000 grant will train and mentor master’s-level library media specialists for school libraries serving the nine Native American tribes in Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri.

The collaboration includes PSU; the nine tribes; 16 school districts in Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri; and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami.
