Two people who were killed in a boating accident on Grand Lake on Tuesday evening have been identified as Rachel Nicole Swetnam, of Grove, Okla., and William Lewis Varner III, of Texarkana, Ark., according to a statement released Wednesday by the Grand River Dam Authority.
The victims were passengers in a boat that collided with a docked houseboat in the Duck Creek arm of the lake at approximately 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, the GRDA said. The collision occurred at the docks at Arrowhead Yacht Club, according to a preliminary report from the GRDA police.
Following the accident, four other passengers in the boat were transported to Craig General Hospital in Vinita, Okla., while two refused treatment at the scene.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and more information will be released as the police complete their report, the GRDA said.
