SW Missouri man’s school prayer quest turns into book

REPUBLIC, Mo. — A southwest Missouri writer has turned his quest to pray for his local school district into a 58-page book.

David Burton’s “Prayers for My Public School” contains 195 prayers and blank areas for readers to write their own prayers. The Republic resident says his book is intended to be inspirational and challenging.

Burton started a Facebook group called “Pray for the Republic School District” after attending a leadership summit at a Springfield church in August 2011. Burton says one of the things he learned at the summit is that “God took the little actions of individuals and used them in mighty ways.”

Eventually, the Facebook page had over 600 followers who were reading and sharing the daily 6:30 a.m. prayer posts.
