Pecan producers from across the four-state area are invited to attend a Pecan Field Day on Tuesday (Sept. 29).
The day’s events will include a tour of the ongoing research projects at the Pecan Experiment Field near Chetopa, Kan., including several cultivar trials. Additional stops on the tour will emphasize the importance of monitoring pecan weevil emergence and learning how native pecan trees are recovering from the 2007 ice storm.
The events will also include a pecan equipment show and a display by a pecan tree nursery. The Field Day will start with registration at 9:30 a.m. The tour of the station will begin at 10:00 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon for $5 per person. Equipment demonstrations will begin immediately after lunch and continue until mid afternoon.
The Pecan Experiment Field is located 2 miles east of Chetopa, on U.S. Highway 166, then a mile south on 120th Street. The event will take place rain or shine.
