A Joplin man was killed and his son injured in a two-vehicle accident at 9:56 a.m. Friday on Missouri Highway 59, three miles north of Diamond in Newton County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Paul D. Degonia, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Newton County Coroner Mark Bridges, the state patrol said. Paul D. Degonia Jr., 30, also of Joplin, was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin, the patrol said.
The elder Degonia was a passenger in a southbound pickup truck driven by his son that ran into the rear of a southbound tractor-trailer driven by Thomas B. Feltenberger, 68, of Lamar, who had stopped and was waiting for another vehicle to make a left turn, the patrol said.
n An El Dorado Springs man was killed in a two-vehicle accident at 6:45 p.m. Thursday on U.S. Highway 54, five miles west of El Dorado Springs in Vernon County, the state patrol said.
Ryan W. Vangilder, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Vernon County Coroner David Ferry, the patrol said.
Vangilder was driving a westbound car and lost control of the vehicle on a water-covered roadway, the patrol said. The car crossed the center line and was struck by an eastbound truck rig driven by Rocky L. Tate, 51, of Middletown, Ohio, the patrol said.
n An Arkansas man was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 4:34 p.m. Thursday on U.S. Highway 71, a half-mile north of the Arkansas state line in McDonald County, the state patrol said.
Randolph P. Kelly, 39, of Bella Vista, Ark., was taken to Northwest Regional Medical Center in Bentonville, Ark., the patrol said.
Kelly was driving a northbound car that collided with a southbound car driven by Michael E. Lyke, 47, of Cave Springs, Ark., the patrol said.
n A Pierce City teenager was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 3:57 p.m. Thursday on Missouri Highway 37, a half-mile north of Monett in Lawrence County, the state patrol said.
Jameson P. Brock, 17, was taken to Cox Monett Hospital, the patrol said.
Brock was driving a westbound car that ran into the rear of a westbound sport utility vehicle driven by Stacey L. Stow, 37, of Monett, who was stopped and waiting to make a left turn, the patrol said.
n Two Webb City residents were injured in a two-vehicle accident at 11:33 a.m. Friday on Missouri Highway 43, a half-mile north of Airport Drive in Jasper County, the state patrol said.
Melissa M. Hawes, 20, and Sara A. Jensen, 23, were taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the patrol said.
Jensen was passenger in a northbound car driven by Hawes that was struck from behind by another northbound car driven by Seth W. Chenault, 28, of Carthage, as Hawes’ vehicle came to a stop because of congestion in the area, the patrol said.
n A Kansas resident was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 3:56 p.m. Thursday on U.S. Highway 71, five miles south of Joplin in Newton County, the state patrol said.
Lori L. Lamb, age not available, of Lenexa, Kan., was taken by ambulance to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin, the patrol said.
Lamb was driving a northbound car that struck a bridge rail when it began to hydroplane while she was attempting to pass another vehicle, the patrol said.
n A Neosho man was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 12:30 a.m. Friday on Old Seneca Road, less than two miles west of Neosho in Newton County, the state patrol said.
Tommy J. Weldon, 21, was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the patrol said.
Weldon was driving a westbound car that ran off a water-covered roadway and struck a mailbox and then an embankment, the patrol said.
n A Seligman woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 8:50 a.m. Friday on Missouri Highway 37 at Butterfield in Barry County, the state patrol said.
Jacqueline J. Riner, 25, was taken to St. John’s Hospital in Cassville, the patrol said.
Riner was a passenger in a northbound car driven by Donald W. Green, 29, of Seligman, that ran into the rear of a northbound pickup truck driven by Terry L. Caudill, 51, of Cassville, who was stopped to make a left turn, the patrol said.
