Webb City and Carl Junction voters today approved bond issues that will use federal stimulus funds for capital improvement projects for their school districts.
In Carl Junction, the proposal to renovate and upgrade features at most of the district’s schools was approved by about 70 percent of those casting ballots, with 741 votes in favor and 312 opposed, according to complete but unofficial results.
Webb City voters approved by about 76 percent a $2 million bond issue that will expand the early childhood program by adding four classrooms each at Madge T. James Kindergarten Center, Bess Truman Primary Center and Carterville Elementary School. The Webb City proposal cruised to victory with 717 “yes” votes to 227 “no” votes.
Voters in Pierce City, meanwhile, defeated a bond issue that would have funded the construction of two new buildings within the district. Voters cast 498 “yes’’ votes to 483 “no” votes.
A four-sevenths majority was required for each of the three measures to pass
