Joplin police are investigating a reported felony assault that sent a 36-year-old man to a hospital with a cracked skull, nerve damage and impairment of his vision.

Cpl. Chuck Niess of the Joplin Police Department said that an officer was called Thursday afternoon to Freeman Hospital East, 932 E. 32nd St., in reference to an assault that apparently took place early Wednesday afternoon outside Thomas P. Barrett’s home in Joplin.

Barrett told police that a man he did not know attacked him in his front yard, Niess said. No arrests had been made in the case by late Friday afternoon, Niess said.
