NEOSHO, Mo. — A short circuit is being blamed for a fire Sunday night that caused about $5,000 worth of damage to a Neosho house.

Deputy Chief Mike Eads of the Neosho Fire Department said firefighters were called at 6:03 p.m. to the 1000 block of Baxter Street when a neighbor spotted smoke coming from a house owned by James Harryman. Eads said firefighters found fire in a wall of the single-story house near an electrical box and extending into the attic.

No injuries were reported in the fire, Eads said. He said the house was undergoing some remodeling, and no one was living at the address.

Firefighters confined the fire to the wall and attic. Eads said the cause of the fire was determined to be a short circuit in the electrical box.
