A 48-year-old Joplin woman reported being assaulted by a man who broke into her home.

Cpl. Chuck Niess of the Joplin Police Department said Tamara B. Westfall called police at 6:42 a.m. Tuesday to report that a man had broken into her home and stabbed her in the leg with an unidentified instrument. Westfall told officers that she fought off the attack with pepper spray and her assailant fled.

Niess said Westfall was treated at the scene by emergency medical help for a small cut on a leg but did not require hospital treatment.

The report remained under investigation Wednesday without any arrest having been made.
