The Joplin Police Department’s special weapons and tactics team assisted the department’s narcotics unit in serving a search warrant Tuesday at a home where more than a pound of marijuana reportedly was seized.

Police said the search warrant served at 402 Hillside Drive turned up 600 grams of marijuana. Thomas H. Lett, 24, was arrested and charged Wednesday with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

In an unrelated matter, Joplin police officers went to 421 W. Third St. on Tuesday afternoon to check out a complaint concerning a strong chemical odor.

Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said a man answered the door with a knife in his hand. In the course of securing the weapon for officers’ safety, they reportedly found a bottle of Ritalin pills on him, and he was taken into custody on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.

Michael A. Clark, 19, was charged with the felony offense by the Jasper County prosecutor’s office on Wednesday.
