Traffic stops conducted by Joplin police have resulted in felony drug charges being filed.
An officer stopped a sport utility vehicle at 12:25 a.m. Monday near Joplin Avenue and 16th Street for not having a front bumper, according to police Cpl. Chuck Niess. The driver of the vehicle was unable to produce a driver license and a search of the vehicle and its occupants turned up several small bags containing methamphetamine and meth residue in a flashlight attached to the pants of a male passenger, Niess said.
Brian E. Ziulkowski, 21, 2311 S. Empire Ave., was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.
A 2:50 a.m. Monday traffic stop at Campbell Parkway and Connecticut Avenue led to the arrest of Tabatha J. Keeling, 25, 1813 S. Vermont Ave., on a felony charge of possession of meth. Keeling was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for having a brake light out.
Niess said the driver of the vehicle was arrested for driving with a suspended license, and two other passengers were arrested on outstanding warrants. Some small bags containing meth powder and residue were found in a pocket of the coat that Keeling was wearing, he said.
Another officer stopped a bicyclist Monday night near St. Louis Avenue and East Eighth Street for riding on the wrong side of the street, Niess said. A search of the man turned up a small bag of meth in one of his pockets, he said. Theodore L. Williams, 40, of Duquesne, was charged with felony possession.
