Pupils in several area Kansas school districts achieved the Standard of Excellence on the Kansas Statewide Assessments administered last year, according to the Kansas State Department of Education.
The Standard of Excellence is based on the percentage of pupils in a grade level scoring the exemplary category and the percentage of those scoring in the academic warning category. The ratios are different depending on the grade level and the subject.
Riverton
In the Riverton School District, the Standard of Excellence was reached in reading by pupils in grades four, five, seven and eight; and in math in grades three and four. The Standard of Excellence also was awarded at the building level for reading, math and science at Riverton Elementary School and for reading at Riverton Middle School and Riverton High School.
Galena
Pupils in the Galena School District achieved the Standard of Excellence for reading in grades four, six, seven and eight and for math in grade six. The Standard of Excellence was awarded to Galena Middle School and Galena High School in reading and Cornerstone Alternative High School in writing.
Baxter Springs
In the Baxter Springs School District, the Standard of Excellence was reached in reading by pupils in grades three, four, five, six, seven and eight; and in math by pupils in grades three, six and eight. The Standard of Excellence was awarded to Central Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary School, Baxter Springs Middle School and Baxter Springs High School in reading; to Central in science and writing; to the middle school and high school in math; and to the high school in writing.
Columbus
Pupils in the Columbus School District achieved the Standard of Excellence in reading at Scammon Elementary School in grades three and four and at Central Elementary School in grades seven and eight; and in math at Scammon Elementary School in grades four, five and six and at Central Elementary School in grade four. The Standard of Excellence was awarded building-wide for math at Highland Elementary School, Scammon Elementary School and Columbus High School; and in reading at Scammon and Central.
Pittsburg
In the Pittsburg School District, the Standard of Excellence was achieved in reading by pupils in grades three and five at Nettels Elementary School, in grade five at Meadowlark Elementary School and grades six, seven and eight at Pittburg Middle School; and in math in grades three and four at Nettles and grade five at Westside Elementary School. Nettels, Lakeside, Westside, Meadowlark and the middle school received the building Standard of Excellence in writing. The middle school also achieved the building Standard of Excellence in reading.
