NEVADA, Mo. — Two Nevada firefighters suffered minor injuries when the floor of a building they had just entered collapsed Sunday morning, according to Robert Benn, chief of the Nevada Fire Department.
Firefighters responded at 3:57 a.m. to a structure fire at the junction of 1300 and Quail roads.
The “initial-attack crew made it just inside the front door when the floor collapsed, sending one firefighter into the basement and the other firefighter partially into the basement,” Benn said in a report. “Both firefighters were rescued immediately and suffered minor injuries.”
The fire started in the basement near a wood stove, and the loss was estimated at $100,000 for the building and $50,000 for the contents, the report stated.
