KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A winter storm that has blanketed Missouri with up to a foot of snow is one for the record books.
The National Weather Service in the Kansas City suburb of Pleasant Hill says 3.7 inches of snow fell Friday in Kansas City.
That breaks the previous Christmas Day snowfall record of 2.5 inches set in 1895.
The storm is now in its third day, and Meteorologist Matthew Dux says there were several reports of 10 to 12 inches of snow in the northwest corner of Missouri. But generally the western third of the state received from 7 to 9 inches, and the central part got from 2 to 4 inches.
The eastern part of the state has largely avoided the snow. But that could change, with forecasters predicting 1 to 3 more inches in the northeast portion before the system leaves the state early Sunday.
