Vinita doctor charged with 2nd-degree manslaughter

VINITA, Okla. — Prosecutors have charged an Oklahoma doctor with second-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of a woman who overdosed on prescription painkillers.

The Oklahoman reports that Dr. Mickey Tyrrell is charged in the 2009 death of 35-year-old Tammy Dawn Daniels.

Prosecutors claim that Tyrrell prescribed more than 630 Demerol pain pills to Daniels over a two-month period. An affidavit says another doctor prescribed hydrocodone and OxyContin for Daniels over the same time period.

The state medical examiner says Daniels died of acute combined drug toxicity.

Prosecutors filed the charges Monday in Craig County. Authorities did not know if Tyrrell had an attorney.
