PITTSBURG, Kan. —
Masonite is expanding its exterior door and glass insert manufacturing plants in Pittsburg, and company officials anticipate a growth of about 65 jobs.
Masonite operated two facilities in the community’s Southeast Industrial Park. This expansion is the second investment in the Pittsburg manufacturing facilities for Masonite in three years.
The company moved its glass insert line from Toronto, Canada in 2008. In 2011, the company completed purchase of the 310,000-square-foot property at 603 E. Jefferson St. from the city. Masonite currently employs 135 in Pittsburg.
“We are excited about the Masonite expansion,” said Mark Turnbull, Pittsburg’s director of economic development. “The impact of the additional jobs is greatly needed by our community. The recession has been difficult. However, with resilient employers like Masonite, we are bouncing back.”
There are many challenges with such a large expansion, Turnbull said. Identifying, hiring and training the increased number of new employees is a massive task.
“Pittsburg is fortunate within its boundaries to have the best post-secondary workforce training schools that are always willing to assist,” he said. “Another logistical concern is the storage and availability of raw product to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing of product. Associated with the increased raw manufacturing product is increased traffic flow in an area of increasing business growth.”
Masonite products are distributed to the Southwest, Southeast and the East Coast. Products can be purchased locally at Broadway Lumber Company.
