JOPLIN, Mo. — Scattered power outages are being reported around parts of the area this morning because of the storm.
Amy Bass, spokesperson for The Empire District Electric Co., said debris and limbs have become tangled in power lines. An estimated 4,000 people in parts of Joplin, as well as in the Scammon-Weir area in Cherokee County, Kan., have been without power. Contract crews and line crews from other areas are being brought in to help with the repairs.
Power was shut off briefly to part of downtown Joplin after sections of the roof from the Jasper County Courthouse at Sixth Street and Pearl Avenue became entangled in power lines, Bass said. Power has since been restored downtown.
