A 14-year-old boy died of an apparent suicide Saturday morning at his home near Carl Junction, according to Jasper County authorities.
Emergency medical technicians and sheriff’s deputies responded to a medical call at 10:32 a.m. and found Lucas C. Nugent already deceased inside his family’s home on Gum Road.
Jasper County Coroner Rob Chappel said he anticipates ruling the death a suicide by hanging pending the completion of an autopsy today in Springfield. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department indicated in a news release that no foul play was suspected in the teen’s death.
The boy was in the eighth-grade at Carl Junction Junior High School, and school administrators issued a statement Monday on Facebook expressing sorrow over the news of his death.
The statement informed parents of other students at the school that counselors will be available to help any students struggling to come to grips with the loss of their classmate. Any parents who feel their child may need counseling were being asked to email Principal Scott Sawyer at ssawyer@cj.k12.mo.us to arrange a time to speak with a counselor.
