OKLAHOMA CITY —
The Oklahoma State Department of Education is releasing its new system to grade the state’s schools.
State Superintendent Janet Barresi and other education leaders will release the new grading scale Monday afternoon at Crutcho Public Schools in Oklahoma City.
The system evaluates schools on an A-to-F grading scale.
The new system was approved by the Republican-controlled Legislature in 2011 as a way to provide easy-to-understand information to parents.
But the rules for the new grading system have been opposed by some school officials and lawmakers who say they’re concerned about the way the grades are determined and a lack of input in the rulemaking process.

Two plead guilty to post-tornado wire theft
Two defendants pleaded guilty Monday to stealing copper wire from utility poles in the wake of the May 22, 2011, tornado that struck Joplin. Timothy M. Silveria, 45, of Joplin, and Nycoa K. Kracht, 32, of Laurel, Ind., entered open pleas of guilty in Jasper County Circuit Court to felony counts of theft from a public utility.
