Storm could drop 2 to 5 inches of snow tonight

JOPLIN, Mo. — The Joplin area will be under a winter weather advisory from 6 p.m. today to noon Tuesday.

An approaching storm could produce  2 to 5 inches of snow tonight, according to the latest forecast from National Weather Service office in Springfield.

The depth of the snow could range from 2 inches in southeast Jasper County to 5 inches in northwest Jasper County. The further north one goes the greater likelihood for deeper snow.

The amount of snow will be influenced by overnight temperatures. Temperatures slightly higher than 32 degrees could result in less snow. Temperatures lower than 32 degrees could result in more snow.

Wind gusts could reach 30 mph, resulting in some blowing snow.
