NEOSHO, Mo. — Four Neosho girls will travel to New Jersey this summer as members of Team Missouri at the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games.

Azalea Ray, Makayla Slawter, Lashayla Gillespie and Dominique Dechant are member of the girls basketball team. Other team members are from Marshall and Independence. Their coach, Keith Patterson, is the Neosho High School special education teacher and a basketball referee.

The opening ceremony is Sunday, June 15 at the Prudential Center in Newark.

They have participated in several fundraisers since the start of the school year to raise the $1,500 required for each team member.

“They’ve worked really hard,” Patterson said of the effort. “We’re pretty well set to go.”
