Crowder College earns 'fair' rating in state audit

NEOSHO, Mo. — A routine audit of Crowder College by the state auditor's office turned up several deficiencies in controls and procedures, giving the college a "fair" rating.

The audit released today covered fiscal years 2011 and 2012. According to its findings, the bookstore lacks adequate controls, does not adequately document its inventory and does not adequately segregate duties related to billing and receipts for textbook vendors.

The cashier's office on the Neosho campus also lacks strict control over receipts and deposits.

State Auditor Tom Schweich said the audit noted many other areas that also needed better oversight.

Crowder officials noted in their formal response to the audit that Schweich's office had found "no questions of impropriety or misappropriation of funds." They said they would begin working "immediately" to strengthen the college's internal business practices.
