WICHITA, Kan. —
The Kansas Department of Transportation has narrowed the options for expanding passenger rail service in the state.
KWCH-TV says the agency announced Thursday it’s now considering two alternatives.
One plan would provide nighttime passenger train service between Fort Worth, Texas, and the south-central Kansas town of Newton. The other option is a daytime service between Fort Worth and Kansas City, Mo.
KDOT says detailed business plans will be developed for each alternative. Those business plans are expected to be done by the fall of next year.
Once an alternative is selected, government action to fund the service would be needed in Kansas, Oklahoma and possibly Texas.
