Vacancy filled on 911 board

From staff reports

CARTHAGE, Mo. — An assistant professor at Missouri Southern State University has been named to fill a vacancy on the Jasper County Emergency Services Board.

The board on Tuesday selected Tim Wilson, who teaches in the criminal justice program, to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Jeff Merriman. Wilson is a reserve sergeant with the Joplin Police Department who also has served with the Neosho Police Department and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department.

The board also changed the date of its monthly meetings to 5 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month, according to April Tarrant, executive director.

Tarrant on Wednesday said the dispatch center is working to compile information on the location of safe rooms and storm shelters on property in the county, so the data can be used by emergency responders in case of a storm or other disaster.
