Carthage Council approves measures for Marian Days

CARTHAGE, Mo. — The 35th annual Marian Days celebration officially starts Thursday, Aug. 2, and measures clearing the way for some activities were approved by the Carthage City Council on Tuesday.

The council approved actions to close streets used for a religious procession to be held Aug. 4, allow fireworks after that event and authorized an outside trash collection firm to service the celebration that will bring tens of thousands of Vietnamese Catholics to Carthage.

Though the official celebration does not start until Thursday, some celebrants will begin arriving this weekend at the Congregation of the Mother Co-Redemptrix at Fairview and Grand avenues.
