Suspect in custody in fatal stabbing in Anderson

ANDERSON, Mo. — A former Neosho man is in custody in McDonald County accused of fatally stabbing  another man in Anderson.

Boyd W. Marcum, 30, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Kevin Anderson, 29, late Monday night in Anderson.

Donavon Pierson, the town’s police chief, said officers responded to a call at 11:18 p.m. reporting a possible stabbing in the 500 block of Fourth Street and found Anderson lying on a porch of a residence at 501 Fourth St.

“He was bleeding from a stab wound to the chest,” Pierson said.

He said emergency medical technicians arrived on the scene but Anderson died before he could be transported to a hospital. His body was taken to the Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson.

Marcum was spotted by an officer walking down the street in the same block about 20 minutes after emergency workers first arrived on the scene. He was taken into custody based on the accounts of several witnesses to the stabbing believed to have taken place inside the residence of a mutual friend of the two men at 508 Fourth St., Pierson said.

Pierson said Marcum is from Neosho but had been staying in recent days at the mutual friend’s home. Anderson lived outside of town. He said the nature of the altercation between the men remains under investigation.

A pocketknife believed to be the murder weapon was recovered from the suspect’s person when he was taken into custody, the police chief said.
