Early morning fire damages Joplin building

JOPLIN, Mo. — Heavy black smoke from an early-morning fire caused traffic problems for many residents trying to get to work today.

About 30 firefighters responded to the blaze at 6:11 a.m. at 1002 E. Fourth St., in the old Morton Booth building. It currently housed Grow Marketing and Radio Control Specialists.

Redings Mill and Webb City firefighters also responded.

“Nobody was hurt and the building was unoccupied,” said Keth Stammer, emergency manager for Joplin and Jasper County. “They kept the fire contained within the building, which is amazing given how big the fire was.”
