MT. VERNON, Mo. — The Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded the Missouri Veterans Home $343,000 to add a solarium to its dining room and more space for rehabilitation equipment.

The home is one of seven around the state operated by the Missouri Veterans Commission.

James Dennis, administrator of the Mount Vernon location, said the solarium will add dining room space and have other benefits.

“It also will allow more natural light to come in,” he said.

The rehabilitation addition will allow for larger equipment and more space for people in wheelchairs to maneuver.

He said he didn’t know when construction would start.

“We’re excited,” Dennis said. “We’re ready for it.”
