JOPLIN, Mo. —
Joplin has lost 40 businesses because of the 2011 tornado, but 25 new ones have opened and more are on the way, says the city’s economic development leaders.
The Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce wants to make sure that Joplin businesses have all the tools available to assure that they not only survive but take advantage of opportunities that may exist to grow, said Kirstie Smith, communications director for the chamber.
Smith encouraged business owners to consult with the Small Business Technology Development Center at Missouri Southern State University to look at their business plans and make sure they are track. There also are loans and other financial tools such as tax credits that are available to maintain or expand current businesses and start new ones.
