NEOSHO, Mo. —
The Neosho Board of Education plans to name its choice for the district superintendent today, board President Brett Day said Monday.
Day said there would be an announcement at 2 p.m. at the district’s administration office.
The board met behind closed doors Monday to discuss its selection, citing the exception to the Missouri open-meetings law for hiring, firing, disciplining or promoting employees.
The board interviewed seven applicants before Thanksgiving. There were 28 applicants total, according to Day.
The school board had contracted with the Missouri School Boards’ Association to conduct the superintendent search. A survey of residents and parents conducted by the MSBA determined that residents want a superintendent with strong morals who is a leader. They also want someone who will take a central role in the community and be recognized as a community leader. The superintendent also should understand all aspects of education.
The board’s choice will start the job in July. The new superintendent will succeed Richard Page, who took a job in the Gravette (Ark.) School District.
Day said previously that Neosho will be one of the first school districts in the state to hire a superintendent for the next school year.
Temporary appointment
The Neosho Board of Education appointed Alma Stipp as interim superintendent for this school year following the resignation of Richard Page.
