Home Depot marks opening of temporary store

JOPLIN, Mo. — Home Depot this morning marked the opening of a 60,000-square-foot temporary store near its original location in Joplin.

The store has many of the items that were traditionally found at the permanent store, which was destroyed by the May 22 tornado.

The company, a little more than a week after the storm, opened a limited lumber yard.

The temporary store was constructed by Home Depot’s disaster recovery team, which normally responds to hurricanes.

More than 500 Joplin businesses and more than 5,000 jobs were affected by the storm.
