JOPLIN, Mo. —
A Joplin heart transplant recipient had been dealing with a different kind of heartache since New Year’s Day, when her 8-month-old boxer, Laila, disappeared from the family’s home on Porter Avenue.
That heartache was replaced with a tear-filled reunion this morning when Robin Zentner and Laila were reunited following a weeklong search.
Despite being shook up and a little thinner from the experience, Laila seemed to be in good health today.
“I’ve just felt sick since she has been gone knowing that she was out there alone,” Robin said. “She’s not just a dog, she’s a member of our family.”
Laila had been training as a service dog for Zentner.
