JOPLIN, Mo. —
Joplin’s human resources director and risk manager is retiring.
Reba Snavely, who has been with the city since 2007, will leave the job on April 2. Snavely said she will teach political science and college connections part-time at Crowder College.
“I am excited about it. I loved working for Joplin. It’s been a good working experience for me,” she said. “But I’ve wanted to teach for years now, so that’s what I’m going to do.”
During her tenure, Snavely has worked with department heads and employees to update and rewrite all the city’s job descriptions. A new performance measurement process has been adopted and the City Council has approved a new pay plan.
She also has helped the city implement a return-to-work program that allows employees who are injured to perform a light-duty job until they are recovered.
A wellness program has been reinstituted with employee input. “Now we have a committee that will be running that program, which I think is super,” she said. A safety committee also has been reinstituted and a communicable disease policy has been implemented during her tenure.
The city has posted the job. Applications are available in the human resources office on the first floor of City Hall, 602 S. Main St.
