JOPLIN, Mo. — United Way of Southwest Missouri & Southeast Kansas raised more than $1,235,000 in this year’s campaign, organization officials announced at a campaign wrap-up event held today.

The effort reached 96 percent of the campaign goal of $1.3 million, said Kate Massey, director of community impact for the organization.

“It was a lofty goal, especially the year after the tornado and with everything going on. But everyone rallied and worked together to support programs that will benefit people throughout the community, regardless of what stage of life they’re in,” she said.

Special recognition was given to Ashlee Ricks, Pitsco Education, as campaign volunteer of the year in Southeast Kansas; and Heather Collier, Ozark Center, as campaign volunteer of the year in Southwest Missouri. The “Spirit of Giving Award went to Sandy Arnold of the United Way, recognizing her 40 years of service to the organization.

United Way supports 58 programs within 35 member agencies in the region.
