QUAPAW, Okla. —
Several Joplin residents were among those who were
injured in a two-car accident at 10:21 p.m. Friday on County Road 50,
seven miles east of Quapaw, according to the Oklahoma State Highway
Patrol.
Stephen P. Roberson, 18, Joplin — the driver of one of the vehicles —
sustained critical injuries and was taken to Freeman Health System in
Joplin. Three passengers in the vehicle also were injured. They are
Hannah E. Gandy, 18, Galena, Kan.; Daniel H. Arwood, 20, Seneca, Mo.;
and Rachel F. Blankenship, 17, Galena, Kan. They all were taken to
Freeman where they were listed in good condition.
The driver of the other car, Brittany R. Cones, 19, Joplin, was also
taken to Freeman, where she was listed in good condition.
Also in her vehicle was Nicholas T. Smith, 22, Joplin, who was taken
to Miami Baptist Hospital in Miami, where he was listed in good
condition. Anthony J. Sammerour, 20, Joplin, and Maria N. England, 18,
Joplin, both refused treatment at the scene, the patrol reported.
According to the patrol, Roberson’s car was traveling east on County
Road 50 and struck Cones’ stopped vehicle, which was in the westbound
lane.
