Lions to open MIAA soccer tournament at UCO

Missouri Southern, fresh off an overtime win at Northwest Missouri on Sunday, will open the MIAA women’s soccer postseason tournament today with a 3 p.m. match at Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla.

The Lions (5-9-5, 5-5-2 MIAA, 17 conference points), as the No. 7 seed in the eight-team tournament, will face the No. 2 Bronchos (14-1-3, 9-0-3, 30). The winner of that match with face the winner of No. 3 Truman State and No. 6 Fort Hays State on Nov. 2.

Central Missouri is the top seed with 32 conference points thanks to a 10-0-2 MIAA record. The Jennies face No. 8 Southwest Baptist. The winner of that match moves on to face either No. 4 Northeastern State or No. 5 Northwest Missouri.

MSSU is coming off a 1-0 win over Northwest Missouri on Sunday. The Lions have just one loss in its last four games, beating Washburn and Northwest while tying Emporia State and falling 1-0 to Missouri Western.

Megan Stueve — who had the lone goal of the match on Sunday — leads MSSU with 13 goals. In fact, she has scored all but 10 of the Lions’ goals on the year.

Dana Wilhelm and Candis Clark are tied for second on the team with two goals each.

Tiffany Laughlin leads the Lions with seven assists.
