MSSU golfers finish ninth at Lindenwood Invitational

ST. CHARLES, Mo. — Missouri Southern finished ninth Tuesday in the Lindenwood Invitational golf tournament at Whitmoor Country Club.

The host Lions topped the 14-team field with a 606 total, four in front of runner-up Central Missouri.

Central Missouri’s Cy Moritz and Robby Hughey tied for medalist honors with a 2-over-par 146. Moritz won the playoff for the first-place medal.

Oscar Isacsson of Lindenwood, Trevor Stafford of Central Oklahoma and Zach Tucker of Northeastern State tied for third with 148.

Missouri Southern’s Ryan Buerk tied for 14th place with 78-74—152. Other MSSU scores: Ben Starkey 155, Elliot Soyez 162, Andy Hogenmiller 164 and Andrew Maier 168.

Pittsburg State was seventh in the team standings with 630. The Gorillas’ Justice Valdivia tied for 11th place with 151. The Gorillas’ other scores: Brett Dowell 156, Cole Murrin 162, Fletcher Harder 171 and Wes Kleinsorge 173.

This was the second and final MIAA points tournament of the fall. Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State are part of a four-way tie for sixth place with 10 points.

Central Missouri and Lindenwood are tied for first with 21 points, one more than Central Oklahoma and Washburn.

Volleyball

SBU beats Lions

Missouri Southern halted one losing streak but bowed to Southwest Baptist 3-1 Tuesday night at Robert Ellis Young Gymnasium.

Set scores were 25-22, 25-13, 19-25, 25-20.

The Lions’ victory in the third set ended a 40-set skid during their last 14 matches.

Callie Whetstone had 11 kills to lead the Lions 0-16, 0-7 MIAA), followed by Danielle Severns with eight and Nai Montano with seven. Setter Abby Finder had 34 assists.

Montano also assisted on three blocks, and Kaycia Fry made 10 digs, one more than Katie Politte.

Jenna Isaacs and Carrie Johnson had 11 and 10 kills, respectively, for SBU (5-12, 1-6). Jordan Nedbalek had one solo and five assisted blocks, and Hannah Blount had 21 kills.

The Lions travel to Southwest Baptist this weekend for regional crossover matches.

OCC sweeps BBC

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Ozark Christian College evened its volleyball record at 11-11 by sweeping Baptist Bible College 25-13, 25-11, 25-20 in a nnconference match on Tuesday night.

“We’re learning. We’re becoming a good team,” OCC coach Tony Allmoslecher said. “The players have made so much improvement.”

The Ambassadors received 33 assists from Bethany Decker, nine digs and three blocks from Carrie Page, three blocks from Ricki Duley, 11 kills from Jenni Larsson and 10 kills from Amy Huitt.

OCC resumes against NCCAA Division II regional foes on Saturday at Moore (Okla.) against Arlington (Texas) Baptist at 1 p.m. and host Hillsdale Free Will Baptist at 3.
