Tylor Albright among 9 recruits joining Lions' men's track team

Tylor Albright, a two-time Kansas Class 3A champion long jumper, is among nine track and field athletes who have signed to join the Missouri Southern men’s program.

Albright broke his own school record by jumping 22 feet, 9 1/4 inches to win his second Kansas state title. He is also a triple jumper and a sprinter and was a football and basketball standout for Galena.

The son of Danny and Shery Albright was also a two-way all-state selection in football, at running back and defensive end.

“We are very excited to have Tylor join the program,” said Bryan Schiding, Southern assistant coach. “He will add depth to our young jumps group and will also be an integral part of our sprint relays.”

Distance runners Nathan Henry, Miles Migliara, Brandon Martin and Ryan Jackson will compete for both the track and cross country teams, according to Southern men’s coach Tom Rutledge.

Also signing with Missouri Southern are middle distance runner Logan Garrett, pole vaulter Brady Melugin, decathlete Trey Dorsey and sprinter Erron Holley.

Henry, from DeSoto, Mo., is a two-time all-state runner in cross country and an all-state runner in the mile.

Migliara rejoins former prep teammate Jeffrey Fraley with the Lions. Both are from Waynesville, Mo. Migliara is a two-time all-state runner in cross country who holds the school record at 5,000 meters. He is expected to run more middle distance races for the Lions.

Martin, from Nixa, helped the Eagles win a Central Ozark Conference cross country title and is a two-time all-area selection.

Jackson, from Herculaneum, is a three-time all-state runner. He finished second in the state meet as a senior. Jackson is also an all-state track runner at 3200 meters.

Garrett, from Fort Supply, Okla., is transferring from Coffeyville Community College. He is a two-time national juco qualifier at 800 meters.

Melugin, also from Nixa, was second in the state meet in the pole vault, clearing 14 feet, as a junior.

Dorsey attended McCluer High School in Florissant as a sophomore and again as a senior. During his junior season, he was a Kentucky state meet qualifier in the 400 meters, the shot put and a relay. He was a member of two of the top state relay teams as a senior.

Holley is a 5-foot-5 sprinter from Blue Springs. He finished sixth in the 100-meter dash in state as a senior.

The newest Lions join a track and field team which finished fourth in the MIAA Outdoor Championships without a senior on the roster.
