Of the 86 players on Missouri Southern’s football roster, 42 are first-year players.
And several players are from Louisiana and the Gulf Coast area, so they watched with great interest as reports were made about Hurricane Isaac.
“Some of the kids, their families are at home and they are worried about them,” Lions coach Daryl Daye said. “The electricity is off or the phones are out.”
The hurricane also has delayed the eligibilty process of some players.
“It’s affected some that we were waiting on some eligiblity to come through,” Daye said. “We still had some transcripts to get in from certain schools. There are a couple of players who unfortunately won’t be able to go because the hurricane kind of threw a little wrench in the spokes. They’re freshmen and they weren’t starters, but they would have played.”
