Relay team posts top mark in Division II

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Each member of the Missouri Southern women’s distance medley relay team ran their best split to post the leading time in Division II.

Kaitlyn Belisle (1,200 meters), Jasmin Hughes (400 meters), Sydney Potts (800 meters) and Rachel Schrader (1,600 meters) teamed to run the relay in 11 minutes 56.6 seconds for fourth place on Saturday at the Tyson Invitational at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.

Tulsa won the event in 11:40.07, finishing ahead of Texas Tech (11:42.61) and Mississippi State (11:47.22).

“They were within two seconds of the school record,” Missouri Southern women’s track and field coach Patty Vavra said. “As of now, it is the best in the nation. They are in good position to qualify for nationals.”

Missouri Southern’s Kylie Cornman recorded her best distance in the shot put at 47 feet, 8.5 inches for 13th place. Vavra said that also should be a good enough mark for nationals.

Hughes placed 68th in the 200 meters with a 25.34 for her best time of the season.

Vavra said the Division I competition helps her athletes reach new heights.

“Undoubtedly, this is the reason for going to this meet,” Vavra said. “It is one of the best meets in the nation. It’s great competition, and it helps the athletes perform at their best.”

On the men’s side, Missouri Southern’s Jeff Fraley ran the 200 meters in 21.98 seconds for 34th place.

Seth Hackney was 17th in the shot put with a distance of 52-10.75. Dustin Green took 20th at 51-10.5.

Clark Tanksley placed ninth in the college division of the high jump with a leap of 6-7.5.

Jayce Thomas was 10th in the college division of the triple jump at 47-2.25. Darion Boure was 11th with a leap of 45-9.25. Dominique Jenkins was 14th with a mark of 45-1.75.
