Southern takes fourth in golf tourney

DANVILLE, Ark. — Three Lions finished in the top 20 to help Missouri Southern open its spring golf schedule with a fourth-place finish at the Dave Falconer Memorial Invite on Tuesday at Chamberlyne Country Club.

The Lions finished with a team score of 615, trailing Midwestern State (594), Henderson State (602) and Southwestern Oklahoma State (603.)

Ryan Buerk led the Lions with a 76-74—150 in the two-day event. He tied for seventh. Redshirt freshmen Skyler Arbuckle and senior Andy Hogenmiller tied for 10th, each shooting 76 on Monday and 79 on Tuesday for a 155 total.

Juniors Andrew Maier and Ryan Russell finished in a tie for 31st, just two strokes out of the top 20 at 157.

Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Wouter MyBurgh shot a 70 on Tuesday and won the tournament with a 144, one stroke ahead of Henderson State’s Jared Black.

The Lions will return to action March 25-26 at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions Classic at the Hardscrabble Country Club.
