From staff reports
Derek Moore has been hired as offensive line coach on Missouri Southern’s football staff, head coach Daryl Daye announced Tuesday.
Moore replaces Kevin Carey, who resigned to accept a coaching position at Carl Junction High School.
Moore comes to Southern after three seasons at Division I Western Illinois University.
“We’re very excited to add Derek (Moore) to our staff,” Daye said in a press release. “He has a wealth of experience at the Division I, as well as the Division II level, and brings a real personal approach to his job. We were looking for a motivator and a communicator, as well as someone who can teach the position, and he fills each of those roles perfectly.”
Moore spent the 2009 season as an assistant defensive line coach at Northern Iowa, working with the defensive tackles. He spent three years as co-offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Upper Iowa, working directly with the offensive line.
He started his coaching career in 1999 at Ellsworth Community College and spent two years as the offensive and defensive line coach, in addition to serving as the head strength and conditioning coach.
After a year at Iowa Central CC (2001) and Ames (Iowa) High School (2002), Moore took over as the assistant offensive line coach at St. Cloud State University. He spent two years working as the university’s assistant strength and conditioning coach.
In 2005, Moore went to Lincoln University to take over as special teams coordinator and offensive line coach while adding head strength and conditioning coach duties.
Moore is the father of a son, Elijah (5).
