EDMOND, Okla. —
Kate Foran came off the Central Oklahoma bench to score the lone goal as the Bronchos won their first MIAA women’s soccer game Friday night against Missouri Southern.
Stephanie Fleig assisted at the 28:27 mark, about 10 minutes after Foran entered the game.
It was the only shot on goal of the game for No. 10-ranked Central Oklahoma, which improved to 6-0 overall.
Missouri Southern had seven shots on goal, including three by senior Megan Stueve, but couldn’t convert. The Lions peppered Central Oklahoma goalkeeper Meagan Burke with seven shots in the second half.
Dana Wilhelm took the Lions’ final shot with about 90 seconds remaining and it sailed high.
Southern dropped to 0-4-1 overall.
The Lions play another MIAA match Sunday. They visit Northeastern State, in Tahlequah, Okla., for a 1 p.m. start at DeLoache Field.
Northeastern State will also be playing its first game as a member of the MIAA. The RiverHawks are 3-0 overall and have outscored opponents 11-0 with Rachel Sordahl getting two goals in each game.

Lions fall in MIAA opener
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Missouri Western spoiled Missouri Southern’s first conference outing of the season with a 25-19, 25-15, 25-20 decision at the MWSU Fieldhouse.
Western, 7-3 overall, won behind a balanced attack. Stephanie Hattey and Melissa Cairns had eight kills each for the Griffons.
Nai Montano led Southern, 0-9, with six kills and Katie Politte had five. The Lions had a hitting percentage of .067, with 24 kills and 17 errors in 104 attacks.
Sydney Potts led with 21 assists and a pair of service aces. Abby Finder had 11 digs and Shakila Balkhi added 10. Aleisha Joyce had four of the Lions’ 12 block assists.
The Lions travel on to Northwest Missouri for a 6 p.m. match today.
