Missouri Southern sophomore Jacob Benton and freshman Eric Schott combined for a 2-4 finish in the 10,000-meter run at the Kansas Relays.
Southern teammate Dustin Green, meanwhile, was second in the discus and fourth in the hammer at the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
Benton ran the 10K in 31 minutes, 2.60 seconds late Thursday in Lawrence, Kan. Armando Saldivar, from East Central, beat 33 other runners in 30:49.26.
Scott was fourth in 31:05.63 and freshman Adrian Todd was 15th in 32:05.97.
Green, a junior, threw the discus 163-3 in cold, windy conditions Friday at the University of Arkansas. Teammate Nicklas Polizzi was ninth in 145-11.
Green was fourth in the hammer (171-6) and Polizzi was sixth.
In the women’s division, Southern senior Nicole Green was sixth in the hammer and eighth in the discus.
Southern has several individuals entered in the McDonnell Invitational today. But shot putters Seth Hackney and Kylie Cornman are expected to be sidelined for today’s competition.
Pittsburg State athletes won a pair of events on Thursday at the Kansas Relays.
Junior Adam Volkert on the men’s 5000 meters in 14:42.09, winning by eight seconds ove Jeffrey Mettler of South Dakota. PSU freshman Nicholas Kiprono finished 20th.
Freshman Talon Thompson won the steepleclase in 9:50.50 and junior teammate Ethal Silovsky was fourth.
Senior Kaley Temaat was seventh in the women’s 800 in 2:15.05.
The Gorillas’ Melissa Peden, a senior, was second in the 10,000 in 3:26.33.
